Grant Applications
We give money to theatre writers in order to afford them the time and the space to write. Other than in exceptional circumstances the maximum grant we will make is £5,000.
Grant Criteria
We only support writers resident in the British Isles and who have had at least one production professionally produced in the British Isles which meets the qualifying production criteria set out below.
Our qualifying professional production criteria are:
- a cast of professional actors
- a paying audience
- at least an hour’s duration (not including intervals)
- not one off performances or workshop presentations.
We only accept applications from theatre writers. If you are a director or a producer writing on behalf of a writer, please don’t apply.
We support musical book writers and lyricists as well as writers of straight plays, but not composers.
We support writers who write theatre for families and young people.
We do not support writers who write solely for media other than theatre.
We won’t give grants to cover production costs or a workshop or a reading or to pay for a dramaturg.
We won’t give grants for research trips and residences.
We will accept joint applications. Please do not submit applications from two separate applicants for the same project.
We will not accept more than one application from you in any 18 month period and other than in exceptional circumstances will not make more than a total of three grants to you.
